Automate - Using a Service Account

Introduction

This article demonstrates how to use a Windows Service account to operate the Rampiva Scheduler and Rampiva Engine services. This guide provides the minimum permissions required to operate both services. Other elevated permission scenarios exist that will allow proper operation of the services. This guide assumes that the Service Account to be used is not a local administrator on the Rampiva Server.

Prerequisites 

  • Local Administrative Privileges

  • Username and Password for the Service account to be used


Using a Windows Service Account

A. Allow Access to Rampiva Program Data

Stop the Rampiva Scheduler and Rampiva Engine Services.

Browse to C:\Programdata\Rampiva.

Right click on the Rampiva folder and select Properties.

Click the Security Tab.

Click Advanced for Special Permissions or Advanced Settings.

Click Add.

Select the Service Account Principal and click OK.

Select the Modify permission and click OK.

Repeat steps 2 through 8 on the Rampiva Logs folder located at C:\Temp\Logs.

B. Allow Access to Running Folders

Any location that will be accessed by Rampiva using the Service Account will also need to have appropriate permissions applied.

Using the Modify permission where applicable.

C. Run the Services under the Service Account

Run the Windows Services Control Panel by clicking the Windows Run key, then typing services.msc.

Find the Rampiva Engine and Rampiva Scheduler services.

Double Click the Rampiva Engine service.

Click the Log On tab.

Click Browse.

Select the service account from the proper location and click OK.

Enter and confirm the Service Account password.

Repeat steps 1 through 7 for the Rampiva Scheduler Service.

Start Both Rampiva Services.

Ensure that both services remain running. Check the server logs located at C:\Temp\Logs for troubleshooting.

Perform these steps on all Rampiva Engine Servers in the environment.
